Bellden Cafe is more than a neighborhood coffee shop. Its origin story began when owner Claire Sumadiwirya's son was hospitalized in China. Lendy Hensley started Bite Society after the pandemic brought her catering company to a sudden halt. Putting ideas together with her wife, Katy Carroll, and former Director of Catering Shana Hicks, they decided to embark on delicious sendable treats in the form of gift baskets and formulated Bite Society. As the pandemic brought new challenges and supply chain issues, Bite Society used its collective food industry skills and started to produce more of its products in-house, from delectable cookies to spiced nuts and more. Their head-turning designs come from collaborations with tattoo artists (who also found themselves out of work in 2020).

Mam's Books owner Sokha Danh always loved books as a child, largely due to his father taking the whole family to libraries and bookstores on a weekly basis. The store is named after his father, Mam, who came to America with his wife as Cambodian refugees. The bookstore is dedicated to both of Sokha's parents, who had little wealth but provided a wealth of knowledge to them through their love for books. The bookshelves feature primarily Asian American authors and writers, and is the only Independent Asian American bookstore in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.
"Our vision is to create a physical space in the community that uplifts Asian American voices and perspectives," says Sokha. "We see ourselves as a community "living room". We want to see the community engage authentically with themselves and each other in this space. We want the bookstore to be a place to have fun, enjoy good conversations, explore new ideas (or maybe revisit old ones!), and where all Asian Americans feel heard and seen."
Maneki opened its doors in 1904, making it Seattle’s oldest Japanese restaurant. Jean Nakayama began waiting tables at Maneki in 1974 and is now the president of the historic restaurant, which is officially owned by InterIm CDA — a nonprofit committed to preserving the International District. Seatango started as a part of the Food Innovation Network’s Spice Bridge food hall and is known for being the only local business in the area that makes facturas (Argentinian pastries) from scratch. Lydia Lin and Joe Hsu are steeped in knowledge at their International District store, Seattle Best Tea. One of the oldest tea houses in the city, Lydia and Joe opened their shop in 1996 and have been educating people on the health benefits of tea and providing some of Seattle’s best tea ever since. Rosalie and her partner invented Shower Art – waterproof art you can hang in your shower with a suction cup – to give people a way to decorate their showers - and an extra space in their house to hang art. They are two local artists who happen to be married and wanted to spread wonder and weirdness in the world. They are also passionate about supporting independent artists and do so by selling enamel pins, stickers, and DIY craft kits made by other independent artists in the shop.
Harold Fields is putting his spin on Japanese street food at Umami Kushi in Rainier Beach. Umami Kushi is known for their okazu pan — a fried bread stuffed with a savory filling — but Harold also serves other classic Japanese foods like yakitori.
